Workshop Descriptions:

Airway Workshop ImageAirway Workshop: The advanced airway skills workshop will focus on developing critical skills necessary for the management of difficult airways. Participants will utilize video laryngoscopes, supraglottic airways, and rescue devices in simulated difficult airways, to develop an organized approach to the difficult airway and learn tricks of the trade to succeed in any environment.

Crash Delivery WorkshopCrash Delivery Workshop: The Crash Delivery workshop will expose participants to the rare but dangerous obstetric emergencies likely to be seen in the ED. Subjects such as shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, breech delivery and perimortem cesearean section will be covered using simulation models and cases. Participants will also practice uncomplicated vaginal deliveries.

EKG WorkshopEKG Workshop: The EKG workshop will be hosted by Steve Smith and divided into two sessions. The first session will discuss diagnosis of STEMI in right and left bundle branch blocks and the second will explore the False STEMI/Non-STEMI dichotomy.

Ultrasound Workshop ImageUltrasound Workshop:This year's workshop will be divided into two sessions. The early session will teach participants how to do nerve blocks of the upper and lower extremities to manage common and painful conditions. The second session will focus on ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal procedures including arthrocentesis and fracture/dislocation reduction.

Wilderness Medicine Workshop ImageWilderness Medicine Workshop: This workshop will focus on the management of common medical and traumatic injuries in austere environments using the tools at hand. Participants will make splints, rope carries, and practice basic wound managment through hands-on improvisation techniques. The workshop will be a great introduction to problems that arise while traveling internationally, on global health or international health rotations, and basic pre-trip planning for travel in remote areas.

Emergency Dentistry: Innervation of the face, upper and lower mandible, and palate will be reviewed, and participants will practice local regional anaesthesia on dentistry models. Focus will also include management of dental avulsions, fractures, and splinting techniques.

Critical Procedures:  A brand new workshop hosted by adult learning expert Adam Kellogg.  Participants this year will learn to properly place a Blakemore tube, perform transvenous pacing, and management of electrical storm with sotalol and double defibrillation.

Orthopedic Reductions and Splinting Workshop: Another brand new workshop!  Taught by emergency orthopedics experts, participants will improve their and reduction and splinting techniques for a host of common ED injuries, plus learn new tricks of the trade.
